It takes too long to manually rename a large number of files. You can do this for ten, maybe twenty files, but you could have hundreds of files. What will you do then? There are lots of batch editing programs, but some of them are expensive and others can manipulate only a single type of file. Professional Renamer is not limited to certain types of files. You can use it to rename anything on your computer, be it a file or a folder.

The package will not take long to download. But, before you get to the installation process, you will have to perform one more task: unzip the kit. This does not make much sense because the archive is 1.26 Mb large and the setup kit itself, 1.28.

The interface may confuse you at first, because of all the drop menus. But if you take your time to see how they work, you will have no trouble using Professional Renamer. The navigation pane, on the left side of the window, will let you browse your system's folders and you can see their content, including sub folders, in a list on the main part of the interface.

You can target any item from the list by clicking the check box next to it. Renaming is done with the aid of a series of drop menus above this list. The options from these menus include source name, parent folder name, extension and more. Clicking on one of them will bring up a menu where you can make the actual renaming settings. For example, if you click on "source name", the window that will show up will contain options for removing symbols or changing the case of the characters.

There is a total of nine drop menus above the file list, each containing the same options, so it makes no difference which one you choose. By default, they are blank until you select an item from one of them and make your settings.

Nine menus means that you can make nine different renaming settings at once to your files or folders. If you don't want to make these settings every time you need to perform a batch rename, you can save a template and load it when needed. When every setting seems in order, you must click the Rename File or Rename Folder button from the toolbar. The process will be almost instant and you won't have to wait for a progress bar to fill.

Pros

The program makes renaming a straightforward process. It does not require adding files to a list. You just browse and select which files to rename. There are plenty of settings to make before renaming and they are all easy to find.

Cons

An option for just changing the name of a file is difficult to find. For such a simple setting you still have to look through menus. If you are working with large numbers of files, Professional Renamer can add dates, time, and many more to their names. This way, you can give them a professional look.
